Part 3: The Future of Work: How AI(Artificial Intellegence) and ML(Machine learning)Are Changing the Way We Work (We survived Covid🏋️♀️🏋️♂️ )
Part 3 was to come 2 or 3 years ago as a follow up to part 2. If you were alive then you know what happened with Covid and congratulations to you. You survived !!! 🎉🎉🎉
The world is changing in regards to technology and work. This is faster than any of us thought or imagined. Social media influencer is now a full time job.
The booming hiring that was happening in the tech world has seen the reverse happen lots of layoffs have been experienced in the last period as a result of course correction by the firms and larger economy as people get out of lockdown scenarios. Let’s not forget the introduction of automated AI systems that are coming in.
A lot of digital opportunities and jobs were created. Some were new, others were extensions but one thing was clear is that we can all solve people’s problems from home and get paid for it 😊 !
Tiktok became a big hit, delivery services and e-commerce got a bump in Nairobi for example, churches started broadcasting on YouTube and Facebook live. Elon bought twitter 😎. Zuckerberg unleashed Threads 😁 . Things are changing so fast 🏃♂️🏃♂️🏃♂️. The one that is shifting and changing everything at the moment is chatgpt (most famous/popular one) and other open LLM models that have been shared with the larger public 😮
We are in for another huge wave of change as AI and ML continues penetrating the industries. The great promise of AI is that it will be a new tool that will push us to more creative and high level kind of work. The negative effect though is that it will wipe out almost everything that is repetitive and not specialist in my opinion. Let’s wait and see. 👀👀👀
When I was thinking about writing this article 3 years ago, the initial thought was to share a list with what one can do and work on from home, but it seems it’s more than I can write or list. Below are some useful resources that expand the whole remote working concept and not just limiting it to working from home but rather working from anywhere and being part of a globally distributed team.
They are shared below:
https://runningremote.com/ — Running Remote — Build & Scale Your Remote Team. They host conferences for remote leaders and access to knowledge and connections with remote-first founders and hybrid team leaders.
https://remote-how.com/ — Remote-how — They provide virtual training services from plenty of experts and learning providers.
https://remotive.com/ — Remotive is where top talents go to easily access active and fully remote job opportunities from vetted tech companies.
https://weworkremotely.com/ -We Work Remotely is the largest remote work community in the world. With over 4.5M visitors, WWR is the number one destination to find and list incredible remote jobs. Not sure whether they are associated with we work? 🤔
There are so many others that I have not mentioned feel free to google them.
With tiktok and youtube as well, you can easily become an actor and serious social media influencer with your phone.
If the article above is underwhelming don’t worry. You can always use google bard or chatgpt to find out what other work one can do from home albeit most of it would be in the tech sector.
Here are some examples of work that you might find using Google Bard or ChatGPT:
- Software development. This is a broad field that includes everything from writing code to testing software.
- Data science. This involves collecting, cleaning, and analyzing data.
- Web development. This involves creating and maintaining websites.
- Graphic design. This involves creating visual content, such as logos, websites, and illustrations.
- Copywriting. This involves writing persuasive text, such as website copy and product descriptions.
These are just a few examples, and there are many other types of work that you might find. However, it is important to note that most of these jobs will require some technical skills. If you do not have any technical skills, you may want to consider taking some online courses or tutorials to learn the basics.
Who knows what we will see in the next coming years with the massive deployment of AI in every sector coming soon.
My two sense is that we all need to continue upskilling and learning how to use the new AI tools that are coming our way. See this linkedin post of some tools I tried testing out.
In the next series I will be diving into how I started working from home and what I am doing to get better at it and teach others.
